Predict It Works — Before You Build

Flame went from £3K to £10K MRR in eight months on 50 million organic views. Founder On Neill's VSC framework says you can score an idea's ceiling before writing a line of code.

"Most people build an app and have no idea it's going to work, and then they're shocked when it makes zero dollars," Starter Story's Pat Walls opens. "But what if I told you: before you build, you could predict that it will work?"

The builder making the claim has receipts. "My name is On Neill and I am building Flame — an app for couples where we help you connect with daily rituals. Sitting at 250,000 downloads right now, 50 million organic views, and we took the app from 3,000 to 10,000 MRR in less than 8 months." Flame serves "the 80% of couples who say their relationship needs work, but won't pay $200 for therapy."

On Neill introduces Flame and the numbers.

The framework is a TikTok reconnaissance mission with three checks.

Virality: "Has this format, this kind of content, this pain point gone viral before? What we mean by virality is: has it hit over 100,000 views on multiple pieces of similar content from accounts under 5,000 followers." The follower cap is the point — small-account virality proves the content carries itself, not the audience.

Scalability: can the winning format be reproduced cheaply and repeatedly — is the UGC replicable at volume without you?

Convertibility: "You can go viral by taking a format that's already working — but if it doesn't convert for your product, it's not worth anything. How do you determine this? You go on the content and you see the comments." Intent lives in the comments; views without intent are decoration.

Views versus downloads are two completely different things.

Starter Story

The quiet kicker for anyone hoping to skip the grind: "Think about the last founder on this channel that said, 'I don't have to do any marketing, it's purely passive, it sells itself.' It doesn't happen. This is what's actually working." Flame isn't a new idea — "there's plenty of couples apps out there" — it's an old idea with a validated content engine bolted on. That's the whole game.
